According to the State Statistics Committee, in January to November 2005 net money incomes of the population grew 26.9% as compared to last year and comprised 34.4trln manats. Per capita incomes comprised 4,065,000m manats, or 25.6% up than 2004, while average monthly figure reached 378,600 manats, or 77,200 manats more than last year. It is more linked with the relatively stable economic situation in the country.

In this period 71.0% of the community expenses was spent on purchase of goods and services, 4.5% - on obligatory payments and fees, 24.5% - purchase of foreign currency and increase of savings. However, 1%-rise in expenses for purchase of foreign currency compared to last year hints that the people prefers insuring themselves from the forthcoming denomination of manat. After implementation of tax remittances, obligatory payments and voluntary fees the real community incomes made up 32.9trln manats, or 26.9% more than 2004.

Over 10 months of 2005 the expenses turned out 657.6bn manats down as compared to incomes and made up 33.7trln manats, or 24.8% up as compared to 2004.

However, a strike of workers of McDermott Caspian Contractors (MCCI), which started on 22 November 2005, showed big difference in the salaries of local employees at foreign companies. The demands of the Azerbaijani workers at the company were partially covered. As a result of consultations with the representatives of the AIOC and SOCAR, McDermott presented an answer to employees, offering them bonus payment in the amount of a monthly wage for successful completion of the project in the construction of topsides for West Azeri platform. Besides, the company was committed to increase the overtime hours from 5 December, which will result in rise of net wages by 22%. The senior management of the company offers incase of salaries by 12%, starting from 1 January 2006.

The social payments paid at the job places made up 34.5bn manats. Major part of benefits fell on employees of electricity gas and water supply, transport, store economy, communications and education.

In accordance with official statistics, as of 1 December 2005 a total of 3846,700 economically active people were employed in the Azerbaijan, or 46.4% of all population. The number of officially registered unemployed people made up 56,395 people, of which 51.6% are women. 6 people pretended at one job place. In November average monthly unemployed allowances made up 220,100 manats, or 35.3% of average salary.

The important event in the socio-economic life of the country was the enactment of the law on targeted social aid in November 2005. The law regulates the goal and principles of the targeted social aid.

The social aid is given with the term of 6 months from the 1st day of every month.

The law-income families enjoy a right for re-appeal for targeted social aid.
