Hungarian lawyer to defend Ramil Safarov at trial on 17 Jan

The next hearing on the case of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov will be held at Budapest court on 17 January, the Hungarian embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend.

The case will be considered under the chairmanship of Judge Tot Gyengver, while the rights of Safarov will be defended by Hungarian lawyer Clara Fisher. In accordance with the Hungarian legislation, only local jurists can participate at the court as lawyer. Therefore, Azerbaijani jurists are not expected to participate at hearing. Besides, attending the hearing will be the representatives of the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary.

In accordance with the preliminary data, Safarov faced with the second case in relation to the incident taken place between him and supervisor in June 2004. The incident, occurred due to lack of knowledge of Hungarian language by Safarov, is incriminated as resistance to authorities. He may be sentenced to 2-year term. In their turn, lawyers of the officer also filed a suit.
