Gabala RLS traces flights of 10,000 space objects a year

The Gabala radio-locating station (RLS), which Russia leases from Azerbaijan traces annually the flights of about 10,000 space objects, commander of the RLS information-analytical centre Sergey Starostin reported to the vice Premier, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov, Trend reports.

Today, according to the schedule of the official visit program, Ivanov attended the area of the RLS location. Due to the bad weather in Azerbaijan, the low temperature and snowstorm, the vice premier headed to Gabala not by helicopter, but by car. At the result the total trip time was around seven hours instead of the scheduled half and hour.

The vice premier attends the Daryal RLS for the first time. He was interested to know about the number of soldiers who serve for a fixed period and the number of the contract servicemen.

Starostin reported, there are currently seven militaries at the Gabala RLS who serve for a fixed period. All the other ones (80%) are contract servicemen.

The vice Premier paid a special attention to the problem of up-dating the RLS equipment. He was told updating of the RLS separate units is performed according to the plan.

The RLS commandment told Ivanov about one of their problems. According to Starostin, there are electrical power transmission lines in the vicinity of Daryal which cause some disturbances for the station while tracing.

Especially distinguished servicemen have been presented awards and memorable gifts, RIA Novosti reports.
