PACE to host hearings on elections situation in Azerbaijan on Thursday

Hearings on the elections situation in Azerbaijan will be held in Strasbourg on Thursday evening, Samad Seyidov, the head of the Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), told Trend.

The hearings will be held under the winter session of the PACE separately, but not in a plenary session. Attending the gathering will be the representatives from the Azerbaijani opposition parties and NGOs, while Bahar Muradova, the vice speaker, will represent the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP). The Azerbaijani parliamentary representatives are also expected to be attendance.

The discussions are expected to focus on the results of the November 2005 parliamentary elections held in the country and the by-elections scheduled for May in some constituencies, Seyidov said. It will come as the last event linked with Azerbaijan under the PACE winter session.

In his turn Ganira Pashayeva, an Azerbaijani parliamentary delegate, announced that as a member of the economic committee of the Assembly on Friday she will deliver a report on the economic situation in out of European region.
