Education minister calls on parents to avoid trusting on suspicious braches of Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian universities

Misir Mardanov, the Education Minister, calls on the parents not trust in suspicious branches of the Russian, Ukrainian and Georgian universities, whose diplomas the Ministry does not recognize. The Minister made a statement in a news conference held on Tuesday.

Mardanov said that the best way for Azerbaijani citizens for receiving high education was the local universities. We should appreciate our education and diplomas, he underlined. Under the Lisbon convention on the recognition of specialties on high education in the European region, which Azerbaijan joined in 1997, a special commission annually considers appeals on the recognition

of diplomas issued by the foreign universities. So, far the Ministry recognized the 112 diplomas issues by the universities of Turkey, 54 - Russia, 16 Georgia, 10 the United States, 8 Egypt.

According to Mardanov, the Ministry has repeatedly revealed people working at schools with false diplomas and removed them. The Education Ministry is going to appeal to the law-enforcement bodies n the facts it holds.

Another important issue was the recognition of the Azerbaijani diplomas abroad. The Ministry was seriously working on the principles of Bologna process accreditation of universities, transition to credit system, etc.
