We should work in this direction to prevent the repetition of such events. The growth of events which could cause clashes should not be allowed. A decree on the establishment of the Azerbaijani-Georgian intergovernmental working group is expected to come out shortly and this body will be involved in the resolution of the problem. It is necessary approach the problems of Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia in a complex way. The working group should not only
state its attitude towards any problem in future, Ibrahimov underlined.
Fizuli Najafov, the deputy chairman of the Department for Georgia at the State Committee, said that as fart as he knows special division participated in the dispersal of the picket. 14 Azerbaijanis, including women, were arrested. The action was staged in connection with the division and privatization of lands. Najafov noted that he participated in the recent march-rally staged by the residents of Marneuli District. The head of the District Administration, Amiran Shubitidze, received a group of protestors and employees of the embassies of Azerbaijan in Georgia. I also attended the meeting. Shubitidze promised the arable area will be irrigated and late this January the residents will receive additional plots. The process is seemed not to start yet and therefore, the residents held an action with land protests, he stressed.
