UN rep satisfied with existing religious tolerance in Azerbaijan

On Wednesday Asma Jahangir, the rapporteur on freedom of religion and conscience of the UN commission on human rights, who is on visit to Azerbaijan, met with Fikrat Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Justice Minister. The sides discussed ensuring freedom of religion and conscience in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

The Azerbaijani Minister reported on democratic reforms and progressive changes covering all spheres of social life, adoption of laws aimed at ensuring human rights, including, freedom of religion and conscience of the citizens, successful practical measures.

Touching upon the meetings held in Baku, Jahangir stressed that she was satisfied with the religious tolerance existing in Azerbaijan. She positively appreciated the measures, taken in ensuring freedom of religion and conscience. Jahangir noted that her organization attaches great interest to the legal reforms in the country. She mentioned importance of the measures, taken in the sphere in Azerbaijan.
