Issue of political prisoners closed at PACE MP Hajieyva
An issue linked with political prisoners in Azerbaijan was not included in the agenda of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), MP Gultakin Haiyeva, an Azerbaijani parliamentary representative to the PACE, told Trend.
She noted that he issue has lost its actuality. Earlier it was dealt with a list of 716 people, which is closed now. The problem linked with 3 people included in the list of prisoners which the CE regarded as political prisoners has been resolved a long ago, she underlined.
Hajiyeva underlined that some non-governmental organizations of Azerbaijan send different appeals to the CE. The appeals can be included in the discussions as part of an issue on human rights protection, but not separately. The summer session of the PACE will discuss re-run elections to the Azerbaijani parliament on 13 May 2006 and other CE commitments set for Azerbaijan. So, those who hope the spring and summer session of the PACE to discuss an issue of political prisoners are deeply mistaken, Hajiyeva underscored.
