Washington Academy of Sciences to familiarize the world with Azerbaijan's ancient manuscripts

Washington Academy of Sciences is going to familiarize the world with ancient unique manuscripts stored in Azerbaijan, Trend reports quoting Alan Touwaide, Ph.D., vice-president of Academy and employees of Department of Botany with Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

Having arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the first international conference В"Medicine and Pharmaceutics in Medieval ManuscriptsВ" arranged by Heydar Aliyev Fund and Washington Academy of Sciences at participation of UNESCO, the scientist already discussed the collaboration prospects with Azeri Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev and Heydar Aliyev Fund president Mehriban Aliyeva.

Mr Touwaide said during these meetings he had performed with in initiative to create a triangle of Washington Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in order to carry out this project. Heydar Aliyev Fund and UNESCO might get involved as well, he said.

The idea of the project, Dr Touwaide said, is not only providing the world with details on these unique manuscripts, but also defining their value and use for todays medicine and culture.

Further Dr Touwaide said in the outlook there is an exhibition to pass in Washington in 2008, entitled В"Ancient Plants New RemediesВ", which will introduce Azeri manuscripts as well.

Three unique manuscripts on medicine and pharmaceutics belonging to Azerbaijan were included in the international register of UNESCO program World Memory. These manuscripts accompany other 120 monuments of written language of 57 countries of the world that have an eternal significance for the entire mankind.
