Upon putting in operation BTC pipeline, Azerbaijan might revise its export strategy. Natik Aliyev, Minsiter of Industry and Energy, told Trend such strategy might change but not at once.
В"The measures we will take are not radical. Our end target is to maximally use capacities of BTC pipeline. Therefore, we will attract all the oil in the region in order to export it to world markets via BTCВ", he said.
Aliyev said it would be a big mistake in first years of BTC operation to refuse from other existing routes, their markets, for instance Black Sea basin. В"It would be untimely to discard Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline as one of variants of our export system diversification. At least we shall work in Ceyhan a year or two, get assured in BTC reliability and effectivenessВ", minister said.
Aliyev said also Baku-Supsa pipeline is today one of the most effective routes for oil transportation. В"This is our cheap access to Black Sea basinВ", he indicated
According to thehead of the Ministry of Industry and Energy, the work of strategy itself will show us when it needs to correct the system. When the BTC will be fully loaded, then for the oil of the third party, it may to reduce the capacity of Baku-Supsa or Baku-Novosibirsk, told minister, adding that the third country dosent consider Baku-Novosibirsk pipeline effective for exporting its oil.
Touching on the opening ceremony of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan in Turkey, Natig Aliyev noted that the BTC project is a great creation. First of all, BTC assumes an economic importance for Azerbaijan and generally Caspian region, he told.
The minister remembered that there were many difficulties in realizing the project, including political and technical difficulties, but they were successfully resolved due to the interaction of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and great political support from the USA and other countries involved in the project through their oil companies.
The ceremony clearly demonstrated that these countries consider it a great project for themselves which will allow to accelerate the development of their economy and open new forms for cooperation, minister added.
