A meeting of the joint Turkish-Azerbaijani economic commission started in Baku on 27 July 2006, Trend reports. Addressing to the gathering Abid Sharifov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Premier announced that the 3 ears ago the goods turnover between the two countries amounted to $300m. Last year it made up around $700m
The Vice Premier noted that in 2006 the goods turnover between the two countries will comprise more than $800m. In future the figure will be increased to $1bn.
According to Shrifov, at present over 3,000 Azerbaijani citizens study in Turkey. Turkey plays a considerable role in the development of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic which is the blockade. However, Azerbaijan would like to consider once more a program on expansion of cooperation between Turkey and NAR. Turkey supplied around 40-45MW electricity to NAR.
According to the co-chair from Turkey, the State Minister Mehmet Aydin, the relationships between Azerbaijan and Turkey are in the high level in the all direction of cooperation. However, there a huge potential for development in the economic sphere and should be utilized.
