Elmar Mamedyarov, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, today received the delegation headed by James Morris, WFP Executive Director, Trend reports with reference to Foreign Ministry release.
Mamedyarov said WFP was an important organization with UN and highly appraised its activities.in turn, the guest thanked minister for warm receipt and described his visit to Sabirabad, Imishli and Bilasuvar areas for acquaintance with life conditions of refugees and IDPs.
Mr Morris also said of the work of his organization, saying WFP provided significant food aid to the people suffered in disasters and conflicts, for example those of Somalia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and countries suffered from tsunami in 2004.
Mr Morris said last time WFP also helped refugees from Lebanon.
Speaking of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mamedyarov brought to the guests attention that over 1mln people had become refugees as a result of Azeri grounds occupation by Armenians. He also said this problem is most actual for our nation today and global public help is needed to settle this conflict within the framework of Azerbaijans territorial integrity and norms and principles of international legislation and Azerbaijan Constitution.
Mamedyarov stated some economic development figures recorded lat time in Azerbaijan and said large-scale projects implemented in regions positively influence the countrys economy. At the same time Mamedyarov said the government already approved a program for aid to people fled from Lebanon.
