Successful economic policy will lead to Azeri people welfare improvement, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the session on the totals of government work during the first half-year 2006, Trend reports with reference to AzTV channel.

The head of state said GDP rose by 36 percent during the reported period, all spheres of the countrys economy are developing rapidly. President said it is very good that during this period industry grew by 9%. Alongside, investments in the countrys economy rose as well, during 6 months alone nearly $3bn has been invested in Azerbaijan, which confirms the countrys attractiveness for foreign investors, said president.

President also said the populations incomes during the reported period rose by 18% and inflation totaled 6%. Average salary grew by 20%. Today Azerbaijans currency reserves amount nearly $3bn, said Aliyev. During the reported period nearly 90,000 workplaces opened in the country, and 435,000 opened since October 2003.

Head of state also paid attention to development of social infrastructure, construction of new highways, schools, medical clinics and sports facilities. President also highly appraised agricultural fairs arranged in Baku and across the country.

Among Azerbaijans achievements during the first half-year, president named commissioning of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Besides, president touched upon the tasks on improving life conditions for refugees and IDPs, strengthening materials supply for army and so.

Heads of various ministries and authorities of the country informed the President of half-year activities of their organizations and measures taken in respect to the countrys social and economic development.

President Ilham Aliyev gave commissions to members of government regarding inflation preventing, budget control strengthening, macroeconomic stability preserving, in particular energy carriers payments, municipal services and so on.
