Georgian Railways handle approximately 600-700 carriages a day Head of ASRD

The Azerbaijan State Railway Department (ASRD) transports approximately 1 million 200 thousand tons of cargos a day. To date, such volume of cargo hasnt been transported by ASRD, the head of ASRD Arif Askerov told Trend.

According to Askerov, at present receives and returns about 600-700 carriages a day. However, according to the protocol, this number should form 850 carriages.

At the moment, approximately 1500-1600 carriages have accumulated in Georgia, Askerov said. A protocol was signed with Georgian side, according to which Georgia undertaken the liability to receive and return 850 carriages in Batumi port a day, 50 carriages in Poti and 70

in Georgian oil bases. However, in reality this figure is lower.

In result of the issue that the carriages dont return to the republic, there is missing in cargo transportation. Besides, in 2006 Azerbaijan railways importantly increased the volume of transportations. According to the information of ASRD, the volume of transportations realized by ASRD over the first half year of 2006 was 15.1 million tons, which exceeds the planned volume by 3 mln 311.6 th. Within the reported period, 4 mln tons of transportation was achieved at the expense of oil and oil products.
