The forthcoming meeting of the Azerbaijan President, Ilham Aliyev and the European Commission became a topic of discussion of the EU-Azerbaijan Co-operation Committee held on 26 October in Brussels.
The visit of the State Head is scheduled to take place in November, and during the visit, discussions will be held on work done over the past two years within the co-operation of Azerbaijan with the European Union, a Government source advised Trend. The main event is Azerbaijan joining the European Neighborhood Policy program which is a new phase of co-operation and future integration of Azerbaijan into the European Union.
The primary event of the forthcoming visit will be the signing of the Understanding Memorandum for the strategic partnership in the energy sphere.
The Memorandum envisages the expansion of co-operation with Azerbaijan regarding energy and the strengthening of energy security between the two sides.
The Memorandum offers an approach to the Azerbaijan and EU energy markets, improvement of the legislation regarding energy, the conduct of structural reforms, strengthening of the security in the energy supply and transit systems of the country and measures for energy and technical co-operation. According to the Memorandum, there are possibilities to expand activities of the European Investment Bank in Azerbaijan.
