A protocol pointing out that the Azerbaijani town of Shamakhy and the Turkish town of Igdir became brother-towns has been signed on November 30, 2006. The protocol was signed in the conference-hall of the Shamakhy District Executive Power, Trend reports. Nazim Ismayilov, Head of the Shamakhy Executive Power and Mirvat Zeynalov, Chairman of the Shamakhy Municipality signed the protocol from the Azerbaijani party, and Saim Saffet Karahisarli, Head of the Igdir Executive Power and Nuraddin Aras, Chairman of the Idir Municipality from Turkish side.
Delivering a speech during the signing ceremony, the Head of the Shamakhy District Executive Power said that this protocol would serve expanding relations between Shamakhy and Igdir in all of the spheres. Shamakhy has always created favourable conditions for Turkish entrepreneurs, and now, they are freely engaged in their business activity in the region. I believe that the protocol signed today, will play an important role in the social and economic live of each city, he said.
The head of the Igdir Executive Power and the Chairman of the Igdir Municipality said that they were very glad that this protocol has been signed. The Chiefs of the two towns told about the history and the social and political life of the towns they headed.
