Azerbaijan First Lady to Meet U.S. First Lady

Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Head of the U.S. Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Working Group, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Good-Will Ambassador of UNESCO, within her visit to the USA, will visit White House on December 8, to meet with the First Lady of the USA, Laura Bush and high-ranking officials of the State Department, Trend reports with reference to the statement of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the USA.

The statement says that Azerbaijan First Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva started her visit to Washington, D.C. on December 4, 2006 with a visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Mrs. Aliyeva talked to patients of the center and expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to meet those brave American men and woman in uniform who gave so much to their country.

Their patriotism, strength of mind and unbending will-power is amazing. We understand the importance of their mission. That is why Azerbaijani soldiers serve shoulder-to-shoulder with U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, she said.

As a Chair of Azerbaijan-U.S. Inter-parliamentary Working Group, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva has had several meetings on the Capitol Hill. She and other parliamentarians from Azerbaijan discussed matters of bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern with members of the U.S. Congress.
