Spain as New CIO of OSCE is Especially Sensitive in Separatism Issue  Senior State Official

Novruz Mammadov, the head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Azerbaijani President's Administration, exclusively informed Trendthat Spain, as a newly-appointed OSCE Chairman-in-Office, will be particularly sensitive to the issue of separatism.

He noted that Azerbaijan and Spain have favorable relations with Azerbaijan having established its Embassy in Spain.

Mammadov also added that Azerbaijan has taken into consideration the fact that from January 2007 Spain will undertake the chairmanship of the OSCE and will take relevant steps in this connection. It is linked with bilateral relationships, co-operation with the European Union, especially the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, he noted.

The State official added that Spain itself suffers from this problem. In general, many European countries are concerned with separatism. Europe and particularly, Spain, is very sensitive to the issue of separatism and in this regard, we understand each other easily, Mammadov stressed.
