The Chairman of the Permanent Culture Commission of the Azerbaijan Parliament, MP Nazim Jafarov briefed the media that the process of adopting a law on surnames is difficult in Azerbaijan.
According to him, the project of applying unified surnames was discussed in the Permanent Culture Committee. If we adopt a unified law on surnames, it means that we oblige the people to do something. It is impossible to oblige people to do something in the democratic society. Because it is free to accept any surnames at any times. In addition, it is possible to accept patronymic or other surname, he said.
