Government of Azerbaijan Worries on Hen Egg Price Increase

The Azerbaijan Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, briefed the media that the Government of Azerbaijan is worried by the price increase for eggs in the local market.

According to him, the concerns are linked with the monopoly in the market. After the threat of the bird flu emerged, the Government took steps to protect the local producers, and therefore, several producers used the results of these steps and increased the prices of their products.

We are carrying out works with the Association of Poultry Producers. Organizing fairs of the agricultural products lead to the temporary decrease of the egg prices. We consider it necessary to periodically continue the contacts with the Association in order not to allow the artificial increase of the prices. The current prices are not ordinary because it is possible to buy this product for a cheap price abroad. Lower prices could exist in the internal market, the Minister said.

According to him, the egg prices should be decreased. The Association and the poultry factories functioning in the country want to raise the efficiency of their production at the expense of the population, and the Government presented to their attention that it is impossible to do it by increasing the prices form the poultry meat and egg, Babayev said.
