Azerbaijan Ambassador: Next Meeting of Azerbaijan-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission to Be Held in Baku

Tofig Zulfugarov, Azerbaijan Ambassador to Latvia, exclusively informed Trend that the next meeting of the Azerbaijan-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission will be held in Baku, in January-February, 2007.

He said that the Azerbaijan party has put forward its proposals concerning holding the meeting of the Commission to the official Riga and expects its reply. Touching upon the agenda of the forthcoming meeting, the Azerbaijan Ambassador said that business-forums had been held within the visit of Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga to Azerbaijan, as well as the visit of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Latvia. During those forums, both parties put forward different issues. These issues are aimed at strengthening the economic relations between the two countries, as well as using the transport capabilities of Azerbaijan and Latvia, that will be included to the agenda, said the Azerbaijani diplomat.

Within the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Latvia paid in the beginning of October, 2006, the first meeting of the Azerbaijani-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was held. Heydar Babayev, Azerbaijan Economic Development Minister headed the Commission from the Azerbaijan party. Aygars Shtokenbergs, Latvia Economy Minister, was the Co-Chairman from the Latvian party.
