TV & Radio Broadcasting Chairman: Broadcast of Turkish and Russian TV Channels to Stop in Azerbaijan Next Year

On 28 December 2006 the Azerbaijan Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting made a resolution to stop the broadcast of D Channel 3 January 2007, while STV, the Russian channels ORT and RTR will be stopped from 1 July 2007.

Nushiravan Maharramli, the Council Chairman, informed Trend that a meeting of the Azerbaijan Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting held on 28 December 2006 discussed the regulation of the broadcasting of foreign television and radio channels in line with the legislation. The broadcast of the Turkish TV channel in Azerbaijan will be continued. Taking into the consideration the agreements signed with Russia and Turkey in 1995 as basis, the Council made a resolution to cease broadcasting of D Channel from 3 January 2007, while STV, ORT and RTR will be stopped from 1 July 2007. The Council took into consideration the mutual relationships between the two countries and warned the Turkish and Russian channels in advance, he said.
