Azerbaijani Parliament Approved Charter of Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM

Today, on December 29, the Milli Majlis (Parliament) has approved the Charter of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM. Samad Seyidov, the Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International and Interparliamentary Relations of the Azerbaijani Parliament, told Trend that signing this document would play an important role in the development of Azerbaijan from the historical point of view, as well as reinforce the authority of the Country in the international arena. Azerbaijan is for the first time taking part in the foundation of an international organization, he said.

Touching upon the issue on the GUAM Chamber, Mr. Seyidov said that they have defined the direction of the activity for the member-states. The first item of the Chamber includes main objectives of the Organization. The main objectives of the Organization are to apply democratic values, respectful attitude to human rights and the rule of law. The second item includes ensuring the stability development. The third one includes ensuring the international and regional security, cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, etc., as well mutual political activity, said Mr. Seyidov.

He said that according to the Chamber, the GUAM member-states will jointly act in the direction of ensuring the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the countries.

The Chamber of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM was approved after Mr. Seyidov delivered his speech.

The Joint Declaration on Solving Disputed Issues and the Kiev Declaration of the Heads of the States were approved too.
