The member of the Azerbaijan delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, MP Ganira Pashayeva, informed Trend that the Azerbaijan delegation will raise at the PACE winter session the question about application of sanctions against Armenia. She said that the agenda of the PACE winter session has the issue on Armenia to fulfill the obligations before the Council of Europe. One of the key obligations of Armenia before the organization is to peacefully resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but after entering the CE, Armenia did not released the occupied lands of other CE member-country вЂ" Azerbaijan, she said.
Pashayeva said that the PACE passed a Resolution #1416 on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The document clearly said that Armenia occupied the lands of Azerbaijan and should release them. But Armenia does not fulfill the Resolution, as well as its obligations. Because the head of this country has not taken any constructive steps for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as recommended by the Council of Europe. On contrary, after entering the organization, they harmed the peaceful resolution of the conflict. They committed fires in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, destroyed historical and cultural monuments, held military trainings attended by the Armenian Defense Minister, and finally several days ago, the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh held a referendum with the support of Yerevan. All these gives ground to say that Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations before the Council of Europe regarding the peaceful settlement of the conflict, as well as other obligations, she said.
According to her, the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE will actively participate in the discussions over the obligations of Armenia. In addition, the agenda has the issue of conducting referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh. We will present the session participants large activities of Armenia that are contrary to the principles of the Council of Europe. The PACE Head and all organizations discussed this referendum, Pashayeva said.
According to her, Council of Europe sanction application to Armenia is unavoidable. Time is required for applying sanctions to this country. Therefore, the fact of not applying sanctions to the occupation policy of Armenia accelerate its steps, Pashayeva said.
She remembered that the PACE has the practice of applying sanctions to the member-countries. During military revolution in Greece and Russian war in Chechnya, sanctions were applied to both countries, she said.
The winter session of the PACE will take place on January 22-26 in Strasburg. The Azerbaijan delegation will leave for Strasburg on January 20.
