Head of Oil and Gas Industry Employees Trade Union: Removals in SOCAR Linked with Employees Incapacity for Work

Jahangir Aliyev, the Head of the Oil and Gas Industry Employees Trade Union informed Trend that the recent removals of several employees of the Baku Jacket Building Plant Named after Heydar Aliyev are linked first of al with their lower capacity for work.. According to him, 29 people were acknowledged as incapable for work.

There is no need in finding any motives and reasons. First of all, here we take into consideration a possible risk to get injures, since there are disabled persons and persons aged 72-73 years among the discharged. Who should be responsible for any accident that might happen with workers of such a category then? said the Head of the Trade Union.

Mr. Aliyev said that 100 employees were selected to be discharged. Only 29 were removed.

The Public Organization for Protection of Oilmen Rights has spread a message about the monitorings held in different spheres of Azerbaijan oil sector, foreign companies, as well as complaints received from employees of different offices of SOCAR.

The message notes that the results of the monitoring shows that not only foreign companies but also SOCAR violates the laws of the State.

The Organization says that starting from April, 2006 up to date, the process on discharging employees in some SOCAR offices вЂ" the Executive Office, PA AZneft, Azerneftyag Oil Refinery Plant, the Baku Jacket Building Plant have been underway. The new leadership is carrying out it under the pretext of expiring the terms of labour contracts.

On January 8, 2007, 37 employees of the Jacket Building Plant, who have worked for 10-15 years on the Enterprise, were told that their labor contracts had been canceled, and their term expired,, the Organization added.
