Azerbaijan and Pakistan Intend to Expand Defense Co-operation

The Economical Advisor of the Azerbaijan Embassy to Pakistan, Sabir Rzayev, exclusively informed Trend that the agenda of the forthcoming January 29-30 4th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistani Intergovernmental Economic Co-operation Commission includes expanding the co-operation in the sphere of defense and defense industry.

According to him, the agenda of the meeting also includes expanding the co-operation in the sphere of trade, science and technology, communications, agriculture, finance, banking sector, labor, education, health, sport and tourism. In addition, the sides will consider the possibilities of developing co-operation in the spheres of energy and natural resources.

According to the diplomat, a special attention will be paid to the expansion of the commercial relations, which dissatisfy the sides. According to the statistics, the amount of the trade turnover over January-September 2006 amounted to $1,8 mln, with $,1,1 mln import and $628,000 export. The list of the commodities imported from Pakistan into Azerbaijan includes macaronis, vitamins, medicines, bags, leather goods,, electronic equipments, generators, etc. Pakistan imports from Azerbaijan cigarettes, propane, black metals, tunnel parts and land fossorial machines.

According to Rzayev, from the Pakistani side, the commission is headed by the Minister of Oil and Natural Resources Amanulla Khan Jadun, and from Azerbaijani side вЂ" First Vice Primer Yagub Eyyubov. The commission also includes the Deputy Minister of Defense Industry, Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Deputy Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Deputy Health Minister, Deputy Finance Minister, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and other ministries and state bodies.
