Chairman of CEC: Action Plan Approved by Azerbaijan President  Document Bringing Election System Near to International Standards

Mazahir Panahov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Central Election Committee (CEC), has said during the today's sitting of the Committee that CEC should not speak about political parties at all. When a member of CEC deliver a speech from his or her personal positions, a severe opposition against him is formed there, Mazahir Panahov, the Chairman of CEC has said during the today's sitting of CEC, Trend reports.

He noted that the member of CEC may not be the member of any political party. Representatives nominated to CEC by the parties should suspend their activity in the parties. Mr. Panahov stressed that in order to make an unbiased and just decision; the CEC members should forget their private positions.

He also touched upon the Presidential order вЂ" On Approving the National Action Plan on Protecting Human Rights in Azerbaijan Republic and marked the tasks CEC faces. Thus, it is necessary to organize special courses and trainings in order to improve the professionalism of the members of the election commissions of the country. The CEC Chairman emphasized that the Action Plan approved by the President, which consists of 46 items, will play a significant role in the future of Azerbaijan and its election system, as well as to bring it near to the international standards. He noted that holding seminars and trainings for the members of the election commissions, as well as courses to improve the uplevel their knowledge will become an integral part of these measures.

A working group consisting of 5 employees of CEC has been built on the basis of the proposal put forward by the CEC Chairman.
