Lithuanian Government to Take a Decision on Appointing Ambassador to Azerbaijan

The Lithuanian Government is expected to make a decision on nominating a candidacy for the post of Ambassador to Azerbaijan, the Press-Service of the Lithuanian Government said, Trend reports referring to BNS.

The Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers will take a decision on appointing Kestutis Kudzmanas as the Ambassador of Lithuania to Azerbaijan.

All the Lithuanian Ambassadors are appointed and released by the President of the Country on the Government proposal with the approval of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs.

The Lithuanian Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs approved the appointment of Mr. Kudzmanas in September, 2006, and informed the Azerbaijan party about its consent in the middle of November, 2006.

Mr. Kudzmanas worked as the Minister-Adviser of the Lithuanian Embassy to Moscow for a few years. However, then he was expelled from Russia allegedly for espionage. He will become the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Today, Mr. Kudzmanas is acting Ambassador for Special Commissions in the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Lithuania's Foreign Minister.

Up to date, the Lithuanian Embassy to Turkey has been engaged in affairs and issues connected with Azerbaijan.
