MP Ganira Pashayeva: Intense and Strained Discussions Concerning Future Status of Kosovo Still Underway at PACE Sitting

Ganira Pashayeva, a Member of the Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis), a Member of the Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE (Parliamentary Assembly to Council of Europe), has told Trend today that discussions concerning the future status of Kosovo are still underway at the sitting of PACE.

According to the Azerbaijani MP, the discussions are being held very intensively and strained. The attitude toward Kosovo's possible acquiring the independence is unambiguous. However, the most of PACE delegates' position lies in the fact that such issues should be discussed and resolved within the territorial integrity of the states and the inviolability of frontiers acknowledged by U. N., said Mrs. Pashayeva.

She noted that the discussions would last till tonight, and a decision would be made on the issue. According to her, a draft-decision on the future status of Kosovo is the only document which may include 73 amendments put forward by delegations of different states.

Lord Russell Johnston has prepared the draft-decision on the future status of Kosovo. During the sitting of the PACE Committee for Political Issues, Item 4, which marked the necessity on the presentation of the independence to Kosovo was excluded from the document.

Mrs. Pashayeva said that members of the Azerbaijani Delegation would give a speech during the discussions on the future status of Kosovo as well.
