MP Aydin Mirzazadeh: Meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian Delegations Completed

Aydin Mirzazadeh, a Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe), has exclusively told Trend that the meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations to PACE has been completed in Strasburg.

According to him, the meeting started at 17.00 p. m. Baku time and lasted for an hour. The meeting initiated by Lord Russell Johnston, the Chairman of the PACE Subcommittee for the Nagorno-Karabakh ConflictР° took place with his participation. He marked the importance of organizing such meetings regularly. He stated that there was a need in the both delegations' sitting at the table and sharing their thoughts with each other. He even allowed himself to joke by saying I thought I should invite police inhere. It was for the first time when the representatives of the two enemy countries sat opposite each other. However, the both parties could express their opinions, stressed Mr. Mirzazadeh.

According to him, the importance of the resolution of the conflict and putting and end to the rivalry were marked in the speeches gave by the both parties. Even the radical delegates dared to express their opinions from the point of view of peacemaking. The Head of the Azerbaijani delegation, MP Samad Seyidov, as well as the other Azerbaijani MPs, Aydin Mirzazadeh, and Sabir Hajjiyev gave their speeches during the meeting. We marked the importance of holding this meeting. It is obviously known that the positions of the both parties concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh issue are extremely critical, and it was for the first time when the parties sat at the table of negotiations. I noted that there was a big gap between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Each party is well aware wherefrom the gap is. At the same time, the two countries are neighbours and the fact that they are the enemies to each other is very regrettable. There have been differences and controversies in many issues, but the publicities of the both countries c
onsider that it is necessary to trust the Presidents of the two countries in order to resolve the conflict. I told them that one million of Azerbaijanis cannot return to their lands because of the conflict, said the Azerbaijani MP.

Then, the decision to organize meetings between both the two delegations and journalists of the two countries within each PACE session as many as possible was taken.

The Armenian delegates marked the importance on surmounting the enmity and the resolution of the conflict.

The first meeting between the two conflict parties was held in accordance with all diplomatic rules, concluded Mr. Mirzazadeh.
