President of Azerbaijan Lays Wreath in front of Memorial for Victims of Khojali Genocide

Trend A.Ismaylova / On 26 February, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, laid a wreath in front of a monument for the victims of the Khojali genocide "Challenge of People". The event was attended by members of the Government and Parliament, representatives of the community and the Caucasus Muslim Department,

From 25-26 February 1992, the Armenian Armed Forces, with the support of hard technique and personnel from the 366 th regiment of the former USSR , seized Khojali city. The city was shot at with artillery guns and hard military technique on the night of 25 February1992.

Nearly 2500 of the population who stayed in the city were forced to leave their native land and were forced in the direction of the Agdam district.

The Armenian armed forces, under the military assistance of the 366 th regiment, committed mass murder on the peaceful population of Khojali. As a result, 613 people, including 63 children; 106 women and 70 elderly were killed. 150 are missing; 8 families perished; 25 children lost both their parents; 130 children lost one of their parents; 487 people including 76 children were injured.

The Parliament of Azerbaijan announced 26 February as "Day of Khojali Genocide". On 26 February at 1700 each year, Azeri people remember the memory of the Khojali victims with a one-minute silence.
