Economic Potential of Gabala District  Increases - Azerbaijani President

Azerbaijan, Gabala /corr. Trend A.Ismayilova / The Economic potential of Gabala District is increasing and major attention is being paid to large infrastructure projects. The Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev made this statement in an opening ceremony of the Heydar Aliyev Museum in Gabala District on 2 March.

The President said that development of the region commenced in 2002 after President Heydar Aliyev's visit to Gabala.

According to President Aliyev, under the program on socio-economic development of regions, new hotels have been built in the Gabala district and there are favorable terms to develop its tourism. In addition, new businesses have since been established here.

Azerbaijan is growing with a population of about 8,500mln. If in 2006 the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached 34%, whereas in January 2007 this figure was approximately 50%.

"My key task is to eliminate poverty. I would like all those people wanting to work to become employed, especially in the regions," Azerbaijan President stressed. Azerbaijan is involved in large scale regional projects, particularly the Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kats railway route.
