Letter from Azerbaijani Opposition Not Received by Ruling Party

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend I.Alizade / MP Siyavush Novruzov, Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), reported that an appeal by the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) regarding political discussions and co-operation was not received by the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP).

ADP stated that they had addressed the matter to the NAP Chairman, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. "To date, the letter of appeal addressed to the NAP Presidium has not been received," MP Novruzov stressed.

On 27 January the opposition ADP took a resolution to change their political course and to go into discussions with the authorities. Subsequently ADP split up and the Party was excluded from Azadlyg blov.

The New Azerbaijan Party was created in 1992 in Nakchivan by the deceased ex-President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. At present NAP is being chaired by President Ilham Aliyev.
