Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Araz Alizadeh, a Co-chairman of the Socio-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA), reported that the Party did not participate in the establishment of the new opposition union.

According to him, the Party did not receive an official proposal to hold negotiations in the opposition centre and establish a new union. "They know that we do not deal with such matters. We believe the establishment of a union or alliance by the opposition will not lead to any positive results. The initiative is a senseless one." Alizadeh noted.

The first Azerbaijani President, Ayaz Mutallibov, is another co-chairman of the SDPA. Mutallibov has been residing in Russia since 1992.
