No Tensions on Iran-Azerbaijan Border – Head of State Frontier Service

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / Elchin Guliyev, the head of the State Frontier Service, reported in Baku on 12 April that no preparation was being made, no special arrangements were being carried out, and no tensions were observed at the Azerbaijan-Iran border.

"I believe that the spreading of such information is a part a project developed by special services of other countries in order to aggravate the situation in the region. By exaggerating the facts they seek to cause anxiety," Mr. Guliyev said. According to Guliyev border procedures are being carried out in the usual method.

Guliyev noted that protection of the state frontier is normal. "Our most serious problems for the time being are fighting against illegal migration and drug trafficking. The arrangements made by the State Frontier Service, the Ministry of National Security, and the Foreign Ministry, have a positive effect on the protection of the state border. The arrangements will be continued," he added.
