Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr I. Alizadeh / Ziyafat Askarov, the first Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, stated during the meeting of Milli Mejlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) held on 13 April, that electoral commissions must not be formed on parity basis.

During the discussions of the Law on Additional Authorities for Municipalities the chairman of the oppositional Great Establishment party, Fazail Gazanfaroghlu, noted that the commissions uniting the representatives of the municipal and executive bodies must not be formed on the parity basis for settlement of local problems. Gazanfaroghlu added that such commission would not be able to function in a proper way.

After Gazanfaroghlu's address, the first Vice-Speaker accepted Gazanfaroghlu's opinion. "Despite the fact that Mr. Gazanfaroglu is a member of oppositional party, he is right stating the impossibility of establishing a commission on parity basis," he added.
