Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr I. Alizadeh / Sardar Jalaloghlu, the chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party (ADP), reported on 24 April that the party had held preparatory conferences for the congress in 30 of its regional and city branches.

Preparatory conferences will be held in another 10 regional and city branches. "In compliance with the decision made by the Supreme Assembly of the ADP we will complete the preparation process for the congress by the end of May," Jalaloghlu said.

The conferences will cover 60 regional and city branches. According to Jalaloghlu, several local branches of the ADP have come over to Rasul Guliyev's side. "For this reason we establish new local branches in the regions and cities," Jalaloghlu stressed.

The opposition ADP was founded in 1991 by Sardar Jalaloghlu. The ex-speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament, Rasul Guliyev, residing abroad was leading the party since 2000. In February 2006, the ADP split into two parties, with one of them uniting the supporters of Rasul Guliyev, and another the supporters of Sardar Jalaloghlu. By the decision of the Supreme Assembly of the ADP, the party changed its political course in 2007 and passed from radicalism to political dialogue with the government.
