Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend E.Huseynli / Ali Karimli, the Chairman of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party (PFAP) stated that if the composition of the election commission is formed on parity basis, Azadlyg bloc can participate in the elections with a unified candidate. He was commenting on the Party's actions in case of the success of a consensus between the Azerbaijan government and the Venice Commission in connection with the injection of changes and supplements to the Elections Code of Azerbaijan.
With respect to unification of the opposition, the leader of the PFAP noted that he is ready for any proposal. A politician regarding himself as a democrat should not reject any proposal without an initial discussion. "However, I disagree with ideas necessitating the unification of the opposition in Azerbaijan. Now no one should be banned of declaring himself as oppositionist. It is impossible to establish a monopoly under the notion of 'opposition'," he stated. Furthermore, Karimli does not think that all participants in this camp should hold identical viewpoints. "The unification of forces declaring themselves as opposition is absurd," he emphasized.
There are forces in Azerbaijan which participate in the false elections as opposition. They defend the government's interests in some cases. Why should we achieve an obligatory alliance with them?" he inquired.
