Azerbaijani Party of Open Society in talks with Political Organizations

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Akif Shahbazov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Party of Open Society, has said that the Party is negotiating with more than 40 political and public organizations to discuss all national problems in Azerbaijan, adding that a meeting will be held in Baku on may25. The invitations to take part in the meeting have been sent to the political parties, non-governmental organizations and active public representatives.

"We have already held the negotiations with more than 40 organizations, including 15 political parties. The rest are the non-governmental organizations and public unions. We are going to apply to 20 parties and organizations," Shahbazov said. Issues concerning human rights in Azerbaijan, creation of democratic environment for holding elections, freedom of speech and other problems will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting with the participation of all political forces and the ruling party, with concrete decisions regarding these matters expected to be made.

Rasul Quliyev, ex-speaker of the Parliament, is the head of the oppositional Party of Open Society in Azerbaijan and his supporters, having left the Azerbaijani Democratic Party, recently held a conference which decided to establish the organization.
