GUAM National Co-ordinators to Define Strategic Directions of Azerbaijan’s Future Chairmanship

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / Andrey Vasilevskiy, the Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, said in talks with journalists on 4 May that the experts of the Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova} has prepared all the documents to be considered at the meeting of the Council of National Co-ordinators of this organization, to commence in Baku on 4 May.

"We have a base to function and we can report to ministers on the successful accomplishment of the Ukrainian term of chairmanship at the organization and are ready to pass this office to Azerbaijan," he stressed. A meeting of national co-ordinators will put an accent on the arrangements for the forthcoming summit of the heads of state of the GUAM member-states, to be held in Baku in mid-June.

The agenda of the national co-ordinators' meeting also includes the development of a draft Baku Declaration, to be adopted during the summit of the heads of state. "It's not only the summary of the Ukraine's chairmanship at the organization over a year, but also the strategic planning to be carried out by Azerbaijan during its forthcoming chairmanship terms at GUAM," Vasilevskiy emphasized

Furthermore, documents of an economic nature, concerning the co-operation in the nuclear sector, multi-modal deliveries will also be submitted for the consideration of the heads of state.

At this stage of co-operation in the nuclear sphere, this is an agreement on transit, joint approaches towards nuclear material and waste products, the diplomat noted.

The two-day meeting of the GUAM national co-ordinators is held on the level of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
