Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Mr. Alibala Askerov, the Leader of Popular Movement Geyrat, which functions in Georgia, said on 5 May that the number of the Azerbaijani schools gradually decreases in Georgia. He stressed that according to the new law on education, the text books for secondary schools will be issued in compliance with the number of the pupils at school. The schools with small number of pupils will be forced to be closed due to financial lack. According to Askerov, due to the unemployment, the Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia leave the Country and it leads to the decrease of the number of pupils at Azerbaijani schools and as a result, the same schools are closed.

"The pupils of closed Azerbaijani schools will have to go to schools of neighboring villages and no-one will provide a car to ensure the transportation of pupils. I think that more than 50 out of 168 Azerbaijani schools in Georgia will be closed in 2008," Askerov stressed.
