Measures on Social Adaptation of Released Prisoners to be Taken in Azerbaijan

Sh.Alizade / The Chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament's Permanent Commission on Social Policy, Hady Rajably, said on 12 May that a number of measures are planned to be taken for social adaptation of the released prisoners. According to him, the law on social adaptation of released people who were serving in Penal institutions, which will be adopted by the Parliament in the third reading, will reflect solutions to several problems of former prisoners.

Rajably stressed that social adaptation centres will be created for this purpose. In addition, the former prisoners will receive material aid in double amount of minimal salary. As a first aid, it is planned to provide them with housing-communal conditions, medical, legal and psychological assistance, job and opportunity to get education. The Amnesty Act adopted by the Parliament of Azerbaijan on 8 May envisages release of 1,500 convicted and cut in punishment term of other 7,500 prisoners. The amnesty acts have been realized in Azerbaijan since 1995. Seven amnesty acts have been made over the reported period and 32 orders have been issued on pardon. These acts have been referred to 77.000 people.
