Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Meets with Pakistani President

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / Sabir Rzayev, an adviser at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Pakistan, reported during a telephone conversation that the problems existing in the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) member-states and the their resolution were discussed at a meeting between Pakistani President Parviz Musharraf and the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Islamabad. The meeting was held within the framework of the two-day 34th session of the OIC Foreign Ministers, which began in Islamabad on 15 May.

The meeting centered on conflicts existing in the territory of the OIC member-countries, including Armenia's aggression towards Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mammadyarov, who handed over chairmanship of OIC in Pakistan after completion of 1 year in office, drew attention to the problems experienced in the development of Muslim countries and stressed the necessity to boost efforts to resolve these conflicts.

The two parties also held an exchange of opinions on bilateral co-operation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan,' the adviser added

The Azerbaijan foreign minister presented President Musharraf with the Azerbaijani versions of a book entitled 'The land of fire', written by the Pakistani leader. The book was translated into Azerbaijani at the expense of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Pakistan.

Rzayev announced that the Azerbaijani foreign minister is scheduled to hold two meetings with the heads of delegations and participants in the session.
