Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Sardar Jalaloglu, the candidate for chairman of the opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), stated on 23 May that the DPA initially intended to strengthen its position among opposition parties and then establish a dialogue with the current authority.

To establish cooperation and dialogue between the opposition and ruling parties, political parties should have a strong position among opposition forces.

"After strengthening our position among opposition camps, we will negotiate with the Authority. To establish strong relationships with opposition forces we suggest forming a Consultation Alliance of parties," Jalaloglu added.

Jalaloglu noted that they did not intend to join the Authority camp and that the DPA tried to restore its previous relationship with the former alliance - the opposition parties.

The DPA was formed by Sardar Jalaloglu in 1991. It has been the opposition position against the ruling party until January 2007. Since January the DPA has taken a new political course to establish a dialogue with the authority.

In protest to this action, the supporters of Rasul Guliyev, the former chairman of the political organization, separated from the DPA and formed the new Open Society Party.
