Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Committee on Protection of Rights of World Azerbaijanis reported that Boyuk Rasuloglu, the Chairman of the Committee has sent an appeal to Ban Ki Mun, the Secretary General and to the Supreme Commissariat for Human Rights of the UN.

The appeal envisages the protest against the decision of the Council on Human Rights of the UN to suspend the observation of human rights in Iran.

The situation in Iran will worsen, with the Government intensifying its pressure on the South Azerbaijanis and will violate the rights of the people. The South Azerbaijanis are deprived of the right to receive education in their native tongue. Some 10,000 people were arrested and discharged from their employment as the result of demonstrations held in the Iranian Province of South Azerbaijan in 2006.

Some Country-Members of the UN do not pay attention to the facts of violation of human rights in Iran.

The Committee, a non-government organization in the Iranian Province, protects the national interests of fellow Azerbaijanis residing in Iran.
