Leader of Criminal Group Detained in Russia
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseyinli / Ali Islamoglu Karimov, the resident of the Bulbul village of Baku, who had been in hiding for a long time, has been detained as a result of a search held by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry and the police at the Sevastopol region of Russia.
Corresponding measures to extradite Karimov has been carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan.
Lachin Aydinov and Ali Karimov, leaders of criminal gangs, were accused of numerous murders, robbery, blackmail, kidnapping and the illegal imprisonment of persons as well as many other serious crimes since 1996. Most members of the group were made answerable and sentenced for their crimes.
Aydinov was detained in Baku on 8 November 2003. Three pistols, 1 gun, as well as 1 bomb belonging to the gangs were seized in their apartment. Kerimov had been in hiding since 2002.
