NATO Special Representative on Caucasus and Central Asia to Visit Azerbaijan in Autumn

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr A. Gasimova / NATO Special Representative on Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simons, has plans to visit Azerbaijan in autumn, NATO spokesman, Simona Demanso reported on 30 May from Brussels.

According to Demanso, Simons visits the South Caucasus twice a year. During his spring visit he met with Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov. He also held meetings at the Cabinet of Ministers, National Security Ministry, Defence Ministry, Emergency Situations Ministry, State Border Service of Azerbaijan Republic, and Internal Troops of the Interior Ministry. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation and ways for expansion, as well as held a viewpoint exchange on implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP).

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister paid a visit to NATO in the beginning of May in order to discuss the process of reforms in Azerbaijan with NATO countries' Ambassadors and NATO Deputy Secretary General, Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo.

The first stage of IPAP in Azerbaijan was assessed during the session of the North Atlantic Council, the main governing body of NATO.

Demanso noted that the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister's visit to NATO had been very fruitful. The talks had been held within the framework of the IPAP. NATO will continue developing relations with Azerbaijan.
