Date for Election of Opposition Political Bloc’s Chairman Fixed

Ilhamgizi / The Chairman of the 'Our Azerbaijan' opposition bloc is expected to be elected soon, the chairman-in-office of the bloc, Vugar Beyturan, reported on 4 June. Discussed at the meeting of the co-chairmen of the bloc was a rally scheduled for 12 June, the protection of residents of the Azerbaijani Lachin region and the elections of the chairman.

The decision of the parties represented in the bloc to participate was made. The elections were scheduled to 25 August.

Beyturan reported that the election process would run through three months following the nomination of the candidates. The candidates have been already been defined as follows: the chairman of the Turkic National Party, Vugar Beyturan, and the chairman of the 'Independent Azerbaijan' Party, Hasan Hasanov. The election campaign began on 4 June. The elections will be held on 25 August during the meeting of the Council of Chairmen through a secret vote.

Furthermore, the Council of Chairmen has protested against the protection of the rights of Lachin residents by an attorney of Kurdish origin, Karim Yildiz. The members of the bloc believe that his activities could cause ethnic separatism in Azerbaijan.
