Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Union for Democracy which brings together three opposition parties of Azerbaijan will organize the next Karabakh Forum, said the Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (Classics), represented in the Union, Mirmahmud Miralioglu. The meeting of the Union on 11 June 2007 focused on the organizational issues and the conduct of the next Karabakh Forum. As a result of the meeting, it was decided to hold the next Karabakh Forum on 2 July in Baku. The event is planned to be attended by intellectuals, scientists, chairmen of parties, and parliamentarians. According to Miralioglu, if the Nagorno-Karabakh problem at the last Karabakh Forum had been presented within the framework of political discussions, this time the problem will be discussed from a scientific approach. The Union for Democracy was established by the oppositions, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Azadlyg Party and National Democracy Party.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries appeared in 1988 due to the territorial claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan. Armenia has occupied 20% of the Azerbaijani lands including Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven districts surrounding it. Since 1992 to the present time, these territories have been under Armenian occupation. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a cease-fire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France and USA) are currently holding peaceful negotiations.
