Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / MP Siyavush Novruzov, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party and member of the permanent Commission on Security and Defence of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), stated on 14 June that the issue on introducing changes in the Law on Military Draft would be discussed during the Autumn session of the Parliament.

"Each MP has the right to initiate it. The project is being developed on the basis of proposals by the population, appealed to the commission. The issue on introducing changes and supplements in the Law on Military Draft will be considered at the Autumn session of the Parliament," MP noted.

The proposals would mean that people who have to care for the disabled of the second category, post-graduates, and persons who have two children or more would be relieved of military service.

"The Azerbaijani Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population takes measures in the struggle with the facts of receiving false documents on those who care for the disabled of the second category. In compliance with the current legislation, caretakers who have disabled dependents are drafted into military service. Moreover, some 400 post-graduates were drafted to military service. We lose specialists for a whole year. I consider that the people of these categories must be relieved from service for a fixed period," Novruzov added.

The MP considers that this law must also include people, who have at least two children.

The Parliament had already introduced changes and supplements in the Law in December 2006. In compliance with passed changes, draft deferment or temporary relief from duty for a fixed period for university graduates, post-graduates and persons who have disabled dependents, was declined.
